Getting to Know Roberts Web Design

Roberts Web Design started with a website design for my own small business in the transmission industry in 2001. I spent several long nights learning about search engine rankings, writing code, and learning how to use many different software titles. As time went by, I finally sold the shop in 2005, and was ready to do something different after 17 years of turning wrenches.

The thing I really enjoy about creating websites is not only the design aspect of it (I enjoy working in photoshop), but also the technical side of the coding that goes on behind the scenes. I like fixing things and making things work properly. I spent many days and nights that first year learning the proper way to code HTML and CSS by hand. As my coding skills improved, and my designs continued to get better, I was lucky enough to be able to keep at it full time without starving to death. But, I soon learned that basic HTML sites were the way of the dinosaur in today's fast paced, database driven internet world. That's when I figured I needed to expand my abilities if I planned to keep up with the world wide web.

Enter the Joomla Content Management System using PHP as a language and a MySQL database to hold all the information. Joomla has so much flexibility and uses, that I have yet to find a single client that hasn't benefited from it ten-fold when they decided to make the switch to the Joomla CMS. Joomla offers so much more than your basic HTML 'static' website design, it would take me a day just to list all the features. Basically, it allows the admin to do the behind the scenes work, and the site owner to update the articles and upload images as if your were sending an email to your friend. It's simple, easy to use interface makes it a snap to learn, while being powerful enough to run a complete e-commerce store. The best part is, it's FREE software. Open Source is the copyright that Joomla is published under, which means you are allowed to use and distribute it freely... Microsoft sure hates us!
